Judge McMath was appointed to the Marion Superior Court in 2024. Prior to her appointment as a Presiding Judge, she served as a Magistrate on the court for three years. She is the Judge of Marion Superior Court 33, hearing traffic, ordinance violation, and eviction cases.
Judge McMath graduated from the IU Maurer School of Law in 1987, after earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the Kelley School of Business in 1984. She began her legal career as a Law Clerk for the Court of Appeals of Indiana. Following her clerkship, she practiced law as an appellate public defender for fifteen years while staying home and raising four children. Judge McMath also taught Legal Writing as an adjunct professor at IU McKinney School of Law for seven years during this time. She then joined the Marion County Public Defender Agency full time and practiced in the Appellate Division for seven years. In 2018, Judge McMath joined the Office of the Attorney General as Section Chief of Civil Appeals and served in that role until being named the Assistant Chief Deputy. During her practice as an appellate attorney, Judge McMath submitted hundreds of briefs to the Indiana Court of Appeals and presented many oral arguments to the Indiana Court of Appeals, Indiana Supreme Court and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Judge McMath has been an active member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, having served as the Chair of the Young Lawyers Division, Chair of the Professionalism Committee, and several stints as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association and the Indianapolis Bar Foundation. She currently serves as the Chair-Elect of the Masters Division Committee. Judge McMath was named a Master Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation in 1996 and a Life Distinguished Fellow in 2017.
Judge McMath is a life-long Hoosier. She and her husband Rob reside in Indianapolis where they enjoy spending time with their four adult children.
