Jim Osborn is completing his seventeenth year as a judge of the Marion Superior Courts. Judge Osborn is a 1993 graduate of Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis.
During his thirty-two-year legal career, Judge Osborn has served as a Marion County Deputy Prosecutor, a Marion County Public Defender, General Counsel for Anthem HMO of Texas and Anthem HMO of Georgia, Chief Investigator of the Indiana Office of the Attorney General, General Counsel for the Indiana Gaming Commission, Chief Litigation Counsel for the City of Indianapolis Office of Corporation Counsel, and Assistant Minority Counsel for the Indiana Senate.
As a member of the Marion Superior Court, Judge Osborn presided over lower-level felony cases from 2009-2012 and civil cases from 2013-2020. Judge Osborn is now in his fifth year presiding over major felony cases.
Judge Osborn has served three separate terms as an Associate Presiding Judge of the Marion Superior Court Executive Committee. He has twice headed the Court’s Information Technology Committee and was responsible for the development of the Court’s Information Technology plan for the new Community Justice Center. He also headed the Court’s Jury Services Committee and designed the plan for restarting juries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, he chaired the Court’s Training Committee and developed a comprehensive training plan for new Court employees.
As an appointee of the State Chief Justice, Judge Osborn served on several state committees including the Jury Committee, the Court Personnel Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Innovation Committee.
Judge Osborn is a member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association, and the Marion County Bar Association. He has served on several committees as a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association.
Judge Osborn has been married to Kathryn Taube for thirty-nine years. They have two adult sons – Benjamin and Samuel. Judge Osborn enjoys walking, golfing, reading, EPL football and basketball.
