Judge Linda Brown was elected and sworn in a Marion Superior Court Judge in 2000, and currently serves in Criminal Court 36, presiding over misdemeanor and level 6 felony cases. She served as Master Commissioner for the Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division, from August 1999 to December 1999.
Prior to her election she was in private practice focusing primarily on criminal law, bankruptcy, family law, civil ligation and was a contract county public defender. From 1992 to July 1999, she served as a Judge Pro Tempore in the Center Township Small Claims Court.
In addition to her daily responsibilities Judge Brown has served as Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division Chair and Supervising Judge of Title IV-D Court. She has also served on the Indiana Supreme Court Protective Order Committee, Indiana Pattern Criminal Jury Instructions Committee and the Criminal Benchbook Committee.
Judge Brown is an active member in the Marion County Bar Association, Indiana Bar Association, American Bar Association and the Indiana Judges Association. She received the Indianapolis Bar Foundation Distinguished Fellow Award and served on the Board of Directors, Indianapolis Legal Aid Society.
Judge Brown was born in Indianapolis and grew up in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood. She is a graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Indiana State University, and the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis. She is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
