Alicia A. Gooden is the Judge of Marion Superior Court, Family Division 14, a court dedicated to all family and juvenile case types. Alicia assumed this role in January of 2021, after more than five years in a major felony court. She previously served on the Executive Committee of the Marion Superior Court from January 2019 until December 2022, and during those years she was actively engaged with the design of and transition to the new Community Justice Center. Additionally, beginning in 2018, Alicia became extensively involved in the creation, implementation and refinement of the Family Division, and she currently acts as Division Term Chair through December 2024.
Alicia previously served as a Master Commissioner in Marion Circuit Court and worked with then Circuit Court Judge William T. Lawrence to create the state’s first ever court dedicated to paternity cases. As a mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator for The Mediation Group from 2010 – 2015, she mediated over 500 family law cases.
Alicia has been very active in the Indianapolis Bar Association throughout her career and has served in different capacities, culminating in serving as IndyBar’s President in 2022. She is a member of the Indiana Supreme Court’s Family Law Taskforce and is a member of both the Judicial Conference Domestic Relations and Juvenile Justice committees. She is a frequent speaker on both family law and criminal law issues and has presented nationally through the American Bar Association.
Alicia is committed to the Indianapolis community through various philanthropic efforts and is a past President of the Junior League of Indianapolis. She and her attorney husband Will are almost ‘empty nesters,’ with their daughter in college and their son a senior in high school.
