Jim Joven is a Judge on the Marion Superior Court in Indianapolis. He presides over the Court’s
Mass Tort and Environmental Dockets as well as a general civil litigation docket. Judge Joven graduated from Wabash College and the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University – Bloomington. In 1992, Judge Joven began his legal career as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Indiana Supreme Court. Previously, he served as Judge of the Marion County Small Claims Court, Lawrence Township Division; as the Indiana Securities Commissioner, guiding the state agency charged with enforcing Indiana’s securities and loan broker laws, and as Deputy Attorney General in the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. He also practiced law with Lewis and Wilkins, LLP, and Plews Shadley Racher & Braun, LLP.
Judge Joven has handled cases in a wide variety of subject-matter areas, including constitutional litigation, tort and contract disputes, landlord-tenant issues, divorce and domestic relations, asbestos litigation, environmental claims, judicial review of administrative actions, criminal and civil appeals, and securities and loan broker regulation. While practicing, he tried cases and argued appeals in state and federal courts throughout Indiana. Judge Joven is admitted to the bars of the State of Indiana, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
Judge Joven and his wife, Carol, reside in Indianapolis with their children, Thomas, Nate, and Catherine. They are parishioners at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church.
