Judge Harrison is originally from New Albany, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington and then fell in love with Indianapolis when she moved here for law school in 2005. While in law school, Harrison worked at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and for Christie Farrell Lee & Bell.
In 2008, Harrison graduated from the Robert McKinney School of Law and accepted a position with the Marion County Public Defender Agency (“MCPDA”). She served as a public defender for almost a decade and spent most of her time in the major felony division. During her time as a defense attorney, Harrison participated in the 2015-16 class of the Richard G. Lugar Series Excellence in Public Service Class which focuses on building leadership skills for Hoosier women. After departure from the MCPDA, Harrison practiced as a civil defense litigator at Lewis & Wilkins, LLP in Indianapolis.
In August 2018, Governor Holcomb appointed Harrison to the Marion Superior Court and she started her first term in January 2019. For her entire tenure on the bench, Judge Harrison has served as the presiding judge in Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division 20—a major felony courtroom. In her first term, she has focused on running an efficient courtroom, presided over forty-plus jury trials, and promotes an environment for all sides-- from victims to defendants--to feel heard.
During her time on the bench, Harrison has served the court on the probation committee, pretrial services committee, and the jury services committee focusing on resuming jury trials with the challenges from COVID. She also serves on the Criminal Benchbook Committee with the Indiana Office of Court Services and serves on the Indiana Judicial Conference Board of Directors. She presented to newly admitted lawyers on collegiality as well as presented at the 2022 Spring Judicial Conference for the judges in Indiana. She is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and serves both the Government and Criminal Justice Section. Judge Harrison also presented to elementary students on the basics of our Constitution for Constitution Day in 2023.
