Judge Eisgruber has served as a Marion County Superior Court Judge since January 2009. For his first 10 years, he was assigned to Criminal Court 1, a major felony court where he presided over 150 jury trials and numerous bench trials. Since January 2019, he has served in Court 6, a court of general civil jurisdiction which addresses litigation involving torts, malpractice, contracts and other civil disputes as well as reviewing administrative agency actions.
Judge Eisgruber recently served as the chair of the civil division. He is a graduate of the Indiana Graduate Program for Judges and has served on several IndyBar and state judicial committees. He is also a member of the Sagamore Inn of Courts. Outside of the law, Judge Eisgruber is a member of the Scouts Crossroad Council Board, and the Indiana War Memorial Foundation Board.
Prior to being elected as a judge and after graduating from Wabash College in 1987, Kurt served for four years as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps. With assistance of the GI Bill, he graduated from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis (now McKinney Law School) in 1995. He worked in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office under Scott Newman for five years, then worked in private practice as a trial attorney in insurance defense for Allstate, as a litigation attorney for Kroger, Gardis and Regas and as a solo practitioner until he was elected in 2008.
Judge Eisgruber is married to Sidney and they have three adult children. They are active members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
